PSHE in KS4 builds on the themes and topics of the KS3 programme and is structured around three key themes:

Health and Wellbeing

This theme helps students look after their physical and mental health and stay safe. Students learn about healthy eating, exercise, good hygiene and the changes that come with puberty. They develop strategies for managing emotions and stress, and building resilience. They also learn how to stay safe online, on the roads and how to protect themselves from harm. The programme covers the risks associated with drugs and alcohol and encourages students to make informed choices. Relationships and Sex Education supports students in developing healthy relationships and understanding puberty.

Relationships

This theme explores the importance of positive and respectful relationships in all areas of life. Students learn about family relationships, including family dynamics and good communication. They are taught how to build and maintain healthy friendships with clear boundaries. They explore what healthy romantic relationships look like, including the importance of consent and respecting boundaries. Lessons also cover how to build safe and healthy online relationships. Respect, empathy, diversity and tolerance are key areas, helping students understand and respect people from different backgrounds.

Living in the Wider World

This theme prepares students for life beyond school and their role in society. They learn about money management, budgeting and developing financial awareness. They explore different career options and develop employability skills for the future. Students also learn about their rights and responsibilities as citizens and how to contribute positively to their communities. Global awareness is covered, helping students understand global issues and their impact. British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for different faiths and beliefs, are promoted throughout.

Statutory RSE: Life of the Full

Our KS4 students explore important topics through the Life to the Full programme to help them make informed, responsible choices and understand themselves and others better. A Parental Portal is available for parents to look at the content in more depth.

Key Themes:
Students learn about authentic freedom and peer pressure, developing personal beliefs and values, and understanding parenthood and family life. They explore sensitive topics such as pregnancy, abortion, and different forms of abuse, including grooming and online exploitation. Lessons also cover social responsibility, solidarity with others and caring for the environment.

In Year 11, students look deeper at self-worth and dignity, addiction, eating disorders, and the impact of pornography. They also learn about STIs, sexual choices and consequences, and how to recognise and respond to coercive control in relationships.

Real-life stories and discussions encourage students to respect themselves and others, take responsibility for their actions, and make choices that reflect their values and faith.

How PSHE is delivered

PSHE is taught in weekly form groups by form tutors who know their students well. We also invite a range of guest speakers, such as the police, health professionals and charities, to deliver assemblies and workshops during the year.

This programme ensures our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive now and in the future.
